Prerequisites and course information
The Coastal Passage Making Instructor Evaluation is an intense 5 day live aboard clinic. Candidates should expect to arrive at the course at the pre-arranged time. Candidates should expect to be evaluated on a wide range of criteria, including but not limited to, the following:

Sail Handling
Helmsmanship
Docking
Anchoring/Mooring
Overboard Recovery
Response to Emergencies
Housekeeping
Navigation (DR techniques, electronic, chart/pub usage)

Passage planning/provisioning

Communication skills
Organizational ability
Structuring learning environment
Team building-group interactivity
Professional attitude and conduct
Prerequisites for the course include US Sailing Basic Keelboat, Cruising and Coastal Navigation Instructor Certification. Candidates must also have current First Aid and CPR from a U.S. Coast Guard-approved program, and a current U.S. Coast Guard License.
The cost of this clinic is $450.00. Candidates whose completed applications and course payment are received in the Training Office four weeks or more before the start date pay a discounted course fee of $400.00. Please also arrive with cash for the provisioning fee. Those scheduling travel should plan to arrive on the evening prior to the course start and depart no earlier than 6:00 p.m. on the last day. This is a very small course with limited spots, and as with all our Instructor Courses, applications are accepted on a first come/first paid basis.
