Leaving a Dock

There are many ways to depart a dock.  The method shown here is the "Back Away Departure" and is the most frequently used.

Minimum Control Speed

A capability that is a "must" for anyone operating a powerboat in close quarters or around other boats or persons in the water.

Pivot Turn

A method for turning a boat in a restricted area.  Its success depends on positioning the helm first and then applying power in very short applications.  It is seldom necessary to use more than idle RPM.

Crew Overboard and Person In the Water (PIW) Recovery

Depicts two essential skills.  First the procedure to follow when a crew member falls overboard and second how to recover a Person In the Water (PIW).

Safely brings a boat quickly to a stop without the danger of taking water over the transom.
